Conflict and Democracy in Action

A small group intervention model was designed and used to teach police (n = 94) and social workers (n = 30) to apply democratic values and problem-solving techniques to conflicts inherent in everyday situations. Social workerparticipants were also trained to use the model in their work in the community. Pre-post evaluation showed some attitude change in desired directions. Half a year after training in the use of the intervention package, social workers reported that training was applied in a variety of natural environments but the package itself was not. Implications of these experiences in multicultural and ethnically divided societies such as Israel are discussed
